The VA burns care system is understaffed and underfunded so much that it will take over a year to get a burn to the hospital in the first place. They do not have a proper system for the documentation to be sent that shows that it was actually a burn and not a concussion – or so they claim, but it does not happen in reality. It is not because these guys dont care about the burn cases.
It is a fact that when a VA patient is admitted with a burn injury, they have to have a doctor sign off on every aspect of the burn care system. It takes an entire day to get this done, and many patients will be in hospital for weeks until they are released from the burn unit – all because some doctor did not bother to sign off on the proper documentation.
With that out of the way, the VA needs to get some serious reform. This is not the way we want our veterans to be treated. It is also not the way we want to treat our veterans when they come back into the system. The VA must go back to basics. It is not enough to ask for a doctor to sign off on a list of the medical care to put on a patient’s discharge form.
We are the ones who are the only ones that are the one to sign off on a form to put on the discharge form. We need to get involved in the process, and this is not the way we want our veterans to be treated.
