The way we describe studios isn’t quite as accurate as we would like. That said, there are a few things to consider when deciding whether or not you should rent an apartment. One of them is whether you want to live in a studio and/or a 1 bedroom. The former is a bit more common, and the latter a bit more uncommon in my experience.
Studio and 1 bedroom are two different types of apartments, and it’s important to understand what you are getting into. Studio apartments are normally smaller apartments for young professionals. A studio apartment typically contains a few pieces of furniture like a desk, a table, three chairs, and maybe a lamp. The 1 bedroom is typically a room in the back of a studio apartment. There are usually a few pieces of furniture, and usually the 1 bedroom contains a bed, a dresser, and a microwave.
Studio apartments are usually cheaper, larger and more comfortable than 1 bedroom apartments. And 1 bedroom apartments are usually bigger, luxurious and sometimes more expensive than studio apartments. Studio apartments and 1 bedroom apartments are also typically easier on the pocketbook. Because studios are usually smaller apartments and 1 bedroom apartments are much larger, if you have a studio apartment, but don’t want to live in a 1 bedroom, then you should probably go for a studio apartment.
1 bedroom apartments that are smaller, or studio apartments that are larger, will usually have less square footage, and usually the more flexible space will have less money than the studio apartment.
One of the only downsides to studios is that they are more expensive in the long run because studios are usually in a bigger location to begin with, and because studios usually have a lot more square footage than 1 bedroom apartments. On the flip side, one of the only downsides to 1 bedroom apartments is that they are usually very tight. Studio apartments are usually big enough to fit a big chunk of your stuff, but 1 bedroom apartments often will not have room for a big chunk of your stuff.
1 bedroom apartments are often considered to be “just as good” as studios because they are usually smaller and don’t take up much more floor space. If you have that many stuff you can usually live in two 1 bedroom apartments.
One of the biggest downsides to apartments is that you are not always sure what you will have available in the event you’re moving. This can often become a problem when you move into a new city and you are not sure what you will be able to get in that city.
The good news is studios can often be divided into sections that you can move to. This can be very helpful if you have to move for more than one reason, since you can often use this as a way to move some of your items out of the way so they aren’t a headache to move. If you have a lot of furniture that you want to keep, they are often divided up among smaller rooms so you can put it all in one room and just move stuff around.
