no cruising law

In this week’s column, I’ve been thinking about how cruising laws have evolved across the globe. I’ve seen them for myself in the US, and there are other places. The US has the most strict laws about cruising in general. There are laws that are passed to keep you from even thinking about it, and so if you are going to cruise in the US, you better be prepared.

In the US, cruising laws make it illegal to go out on a boat unless you are registered, and you have the permission of the owner. This is a good thing. It means that you don’t have to worry about the cops ever getting to your boat and beating you up, or worse, stealing it. So a lot of people don’t mind cruising in the US just for the hell of it.

The thing is with cruising in any other country is that it can carry dangerous repercussions. In the US you are not always liable for the actions and opinions of anyone on your boat. But in the UK, you are. So in the US, you cant cruise without a licence. It also means that, in the US, you go out on a boat to meet people, and these people have to let you use their boat.
