The law of men is a saying that was first used by the English philosopher John Locke in his An Essay Concerning Human Understanding in which he said “The greatest danger of mankind is the gradual decay of society; and this law of men is, that good government is the preservation of society.

The law of men is a saying that has been used by various philosophers since the beginning of civilization, and has been defined by Robert Nozick in Anarchy, State, and Utopia: “There is a set of rules for living human lives, which a society may take as given, and which in one case of society will be more beneficial than in the other case of society.

The question is, are any of these rules better than the other? The answer is a resoundingly “yes.” We’re so busy trying to make our lives better that we rarely take them for what they really are, but as we all know, a good society is one that makes you better.
