I’ve been told this by my friend, the author of a book I’ve always loved called, The Three Levels of Self-Awareness. I thought it was very interesting. The book is in its ninth edition. It is a book that I would like to own. I just don’t know how I would use it. I think that the idea of the first level of self-awareness is that we don’t realize that we’re on autopilot.
The second level is the awareness of what we do. The idea that we know what we are doing is a problem because we can usually stop ourselves from doing what we dont want to do. For example, let’s say you are drinking a lot of Vodka. Even if you know you are drinking a lot of Vodka, you would probably not want to drink a lot. The only way you would know to stop is if you know are drinking a lot.
The problem with self-awareness is that it only applies to actions we do regularly. It doesnt apply to the actions that we dont do often. Lets say you know you are hitting the gym. If you know you are going to the gym every day, you will probably stop if you don’t want to do it. However, if you dont know if you are going to the gym, it is very difficult to stop yourself from going. The problem is what you dont do.
