The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
The problem is when we’re on autopilot for so long that we forget we’re on autopilot. Because when we’re not even aware of our own habits, routines, impulses, and reactions, then we no longer control them we control us.

The last time I tried to explain this to someone it was in my first book, and I think I might have gotten a little too detailed in the process. But the core idea is that we’re not fully aware of our habits, routines, impulses and reactions because we tend to take on autopilot. We just have to learn to tap into our ability to control our actions and remind ourselves that we can stop as well.
This is the key point to remember, when we think we’ve stopped, we’re actually just regressing back to where we were a moment ago.
The problem is that we tend to think “I don’t know” about the things we’ve done. We’re not actually fully aware of the “stuff” that has occurred to us. The “stuff” that happened to us is just a series of tiny, random events.
In truth, we are never fully aware of the shit weve done, and it all just happens. It is just a series of little things. Which is why it is so important to write down what has happened and why so we can remember it. The act of writing is like exercising a muscle: It can be very painful at times, but it can also be very rewarding.
That said, there is no real way to do this without writing things down. Writing is a tool that allows us to remember the things that have happened to us. It allows us to take notes and think about what has happened. It allows us to be clear about whether we are writing something for ourselves or others. In short, it allows us to remember. The act of writing is the act of remembering. The act of remembering is the act of writing.
